RATTANABURI DISTRICT, SURIN, NORTHEASTERN THAILAND

Thailand is often cited as a success story for its fast economic growth, advancing from a low-income country to a high-income country in less than a generation.
At a regional level, however, disparity remains high, with a disadvantage of rural areas, which have not benefited from the same growth rate as urban regions and tourist areas: in the north-eastern region, in particular, levels of poverty have increased significantly, pushing the population to migrate, not to be involved in prostitution and sex tourism.
